Electromagnetic Waves

• Radio Waves

Radio waves are put out at radio and TV stations. They are converted into sound and pictures.

• Micro Waves

Micro waves are sent out by a power source in a microwave or oven. Water will absorb these waves and increase the temperature of the food.

• Infrared Waves

This radiation is taken in as heat. This is because it makes molecules vibrate.

• Visible Waves

These waves are the only light we can see. Your eyes detects light as colors from the longest wavelength, red, and the shortest, violet.

• Ultraviolet Waves

You need to wear sun screen to protect your skin from this radiation. This radiation comes from the sun.

• X-Ray Waves

Bones and teeth block these rays. From that it makes it possible to be able to take something like pictures of them.

• Gamma Ray Waves

These are very high frequency of waves. These are emitted during a nuclear explosion by the radioactive materials.
